MWAC ~ Mom with a Camera

My girls have been admiring the spring flowers, and asked to have some daffodil portraits this afternoon.  So I got them dressed up in their Easter finery and trekked them out to the neighbor’s daffodil bed.  As soon as we arrived, my younger daughter starts doing the potty dance.  So we turned around, mission unaccomplished.  After a potty break, I asked if they still want pictures, and they said they did.  By that point we had only about a 10 minute window before they had to be at their dance class, so I told them we could stop off at the town green and do some pictures with the flowers there if they promised to cooperate.  Let me tell you, playing both the role of mom and photographer is tough.  Maybe next time I’ll hire someone!

Raindrops on…tulips

As we go into a rainy weekend I thought I’d share a few more macros of the flowers in my garden.  This time washed with spring rain.  If you look closely in the drops of the purple flower you can see my reflection!

A Silver Lining

I’m always flattered when I get to photograph families who come from out-of-state.  In this case, these little guys were in town visiting relatives, and took a little break for some portraits in the studio.  And it was a good thing we were in the studio since the rainclouds came in the morning and hung out all day.   I’ve known the older one since she was born, and can’t believe how quickly they grow up!

Daffodil Days

March is such an unpredictable month. Here in Virginia we go from almost 70 degree weather one day, to 40 degree weather the next. Despite the warm, sunny demeanor of the flowers around us, today ended up being one of the cooler days. But my little friends today were troopers for most of the session, showing me the evidence of spring popping out all over the garden. By the time I left, I had a daffodil in my back pocket and a little purple flower in my hair. I’m just sharing a few previews from the session, which was celebrating the addition of this sweet little girl to their family. For more information about the Celebrating Adoption program, contact me, or check out the national website.  And as always, I would love to hear your comments here on the blog!

Spring Flowers

I just love the first flowers of spring.  My garden has lovely spring bulbs that are blooming, and with the help of my little 3-year-old assistant, I was able to grab a few fun macro shots.  These flowers just have the most amazing details.  For my fellow photographers–these are all in full sun, shot using a golden reflector and my little assistant serving as a gobo to block direct sunlight.  That setup allowed me to grab better detail with my 100mm macro lens.

This morning we did a session celebrating the adoption of this sweet little girl. She is nearly 2 years old and talking up a storm! I was excited to get outside for my first outdoor session of the year, and she was such a sweet subject.

If you have also recently adopted a child and would like more information about the Celebrating Adoption program feel free to contact me, or check out the national site:

We have been having nice weather on and off, so we managed to do some outdoor modeling for thats*so*addie. This set is currently listed on eBay. I just love the colors.

I had the pleasure of working with this family earlier this year for maternity portraits, and now again after the birth of their precious baby girl. We changed things up a little from my normal black background and tried out my new Damask wall and yummy knit hats.

We have been waiting for the weather to warm up so we could head outside and do some photos of this gorgeous cotton princess dress by Ollie Girl. I love her calico princesses, and this is one of her special line of “pixie dust” dresses.
