I can’t believe this is the third year I have had the opportunity to photograph this fun family. In the past we’ve tried local sites, but this year I suggested we try their own yard, and it worked out really well. He just loves his new tire swing.

So this session was a long time coming… rained out twice, and then 10 minutes before our third try we got hit with an unforecasted downpour! We waited it out and braved the wet streets of Vienna. It’s been a year since I photographed this little ballerina and her family, and it was fun to see how much she has grown.

This little 6-week-old is a lucky girl–she has a sweet big brother to look out for her as she grows up. I had both of them in the studio last week during her first portrait session. Even though the focus of the session was their sweet new addition, I did manage to persuade this big brother to join us under the lights for a few photos of his own.

This sweet little one’s mom had portraits of her big sisters at the same age, in the same dress and wanted some nice black and whites of her youngest daughter to match the others. I love the timeless feel to them. And how cute is her little sheepie?! The sheep had her own mini-session while we were warming up, and was quite a cooperative little subject.

I was playing around in the yard with my handy macro lens, and caught this mosquito snagged in the spider’s web. Now that’s why we love the spiders, even when they look as creepy as this guy! And I also managed to catch a tiny fly taking a nectar-bath on one of my daisies. Yummy!

A little while ago I was looking for a craft idea to do with the girls, and ran across the instructions for these cute decorative pinwheels. So we picked out some colorful, sturdy scrapbook paper, beads, and dowels from the craft store, and had a little fun. It worked out really nicely because both girls are working with using scissors at school and this was great practice for them. I found the instructions and pattern on Alphamom.

What a fresh start to my weekend. I couldn’t have asked for happier, more adorable little girls as we explored Old Town Alexandria. And I got the best compliment from big sis as we walked down the street together: “Miss Emily, you’re so much fun!”

These little dolls came in for portraits in honor of the little one’s three-month-birthday. The older sister had such a classic beauty with her perfect curls and big eyes. And little sis had the perfect baby rolls and baby blues.

I have been so lucky–the last two days the moms I’ve worked with have brought the cutest handmade hats and props for me to use for their sessions. Yesterday it was the cute poofy hat, and today I got to work with this adorable tutu set and handknit cocoon. It’s very rare that I use my bright pink backdrop, but I though the little tutu set just screamed for it. Doesn’t she look like a little doll?

These folks may just have the award from driving the farthest for a newborn session, coming all the way from western PA. Being the youngest of 4 kids, this sweet baby girl already has such an easy-going personality. Just look at all those little smiles! I had such a nice evening session with her and her mom. And I even got a chance to try out my new mini-sofa.
