These older sisters came to the studio about a year and a half ago, and since their last visit they’ve added a new baby sister to their family. The big sisters were such good helpers with our attempts to get some smiles from baby sister. It was so sweet to see how much they enjoy helping to take care of their little sister.

I last met with these little guys back in March for little brother’s newborn session. This time they were joined by their extended family and I had the chance to meet the whole crew.

My older daughter came to me with her calendar earlier in the week to “schedule” a session with me for photos in her recital costumes. I thought it was cute that she was my “client”, and organizing everything. We invited her sister and friend to join us and got to capture her as a beautiful ballerina and snazzy tapper before they changed into some of my studio pettis and had a little fun.

Working with so many families I hear a variety of reasons why people don’t like various portraits of themselves or their children. I recently lost my grandfather, and as our family has been cleaning out his home we have uncovered a number of old family pictures. Looking back through the portraits I can see how important family portraits are to your children and their future children, even if they’re not perfect. In fact, the less perfect ones were the more interesting and fun ones to look at. So here we go, my take on the “lessons from the family photo collections”.
And finally a couple of signed pictures I found that presumably were exchanged by my Grandmother and Grandfather while he was in the navy during WWII.

We didn’t have too much time to get in our session last weekend, with heavily-clouded skies and thunder and lightening rolling quickly in. But that didn’t stop these adorable siblings from having a little fun at our session.

This beautiful new mom (who you may remember from her maternity session last month) brought her newborn little boy in this morning for what we all thought would be a sleepy-baby session. Well as it turns out he had other ideas, staying wide-eyed for all but one of my photos. But despite his desire to be an active participant in the session, he was really easy to pose and photograph. Just an all-around easy-going little guy.

Love the smiles on this little cutie! I first met his parents last year for their maternity session, and now I got to see their sweet little boy for his one-year portrait session. We had a wonderfully overcast morning which allowed us to explore parts of our location that are normally too sunny for portraits, including every little boys’ favorite spot: the red caboose.
