Teeny Tutu

March 27, 2010

I just love this first image with this sweet little girl in the fancy tutu–isn’t she perfection?   It’s always so much fun when the parents bring something special of their own for the photoshoot.   I’m glad we were able to fit them in yesterday before spring break.  The studio will be closed from March 27-April 4 for spring break.  It’s cherry blossom season here in DC, and I am looking forward to enjoying spending the week with my girls!

Garden Tidbits

It’s been a busy week here, keeping up with the business and training my new pup.  I’m having to type with one hand and hand the puppy with the other, just like when my little ones were infants.   After taking last week off for pup-ernity leave, I got back in the studio this week with 3-year-old twins, and have a newborn session up before we head into spring break.  But the lovely weather also inspired me to take the trusty macro lens out to capture the blooms I’ve got in the garden before tomorrow’s rain tramples them!

Things have been a little crazy around here this past week because our family has a new addition–meet Lucy, the Affenpoo.   She’s 4 months old and 9lbs right now, and will probably remain a small dog.  Affenpoos (for those who are curious, LOL) are a type of “designer dog” with 2 purebred parents of different breeds, in this case an Affenpinscher and a miniature poodle.   They are said to be good with children and good family pets.   It has been so fun seeing her experience the world outside for the first time.  She is curious about every smell and every noise.

I sometimes get questions about pet portraits, and I am happy to include your family pets in your family portrait sessions outdoors or in your homes.  We do not do pet portraits in the studio.  And if you want individual portraits of you pet, while I certainly can do them for you, I recommend considering someone who specializes in pet photography.  I think the best photographers are not generalists, but specialists in a particular area.  Some do beautiful landscapes, but have no idea how to work with children.  Others do stunning senior portraits but don’t have the right equipment to photograph weddings.  So for pet photography in the DC area, I recommend Bev Hollis, who has a wonderful and unique style for capturing pets in beautiful settings.

Spring has Sprung

March 16, 2010

crocus

I am loving the spring-like weather we have had the past couple of weeks, even the rain!  I have the first signs of spring showing in the garden, with the crocuses in full bloom, and a few early daffodils as well.  Just had to share one of my beautiful crocuses.  They are so short-lived, but always a welcome sight after a long winter.

Sock Monkey’s Buddy

I got to meet this little guy last August for his newborn session, and today he was back with mom and dad and big brother.    It was so nice to have a sitter in the studio after a string of busy one-year-olds, and this little guy was in that perfect [for photos] stage where he can sit unassisted and not yet crawling or walking.

We have had a streak of lovely weather here, so the girls and I were able to get some modeling sessions done and enjoy being outside.    These adorable sister sets are by Kathryn Rose Designs.  You can find her store on Etsy.

Pretty in Pink (and green)

This sweet little girl was as curious as she was adorable, and kept me on my feet.  We were playing with blocks, helping her climb on benches, and playing hide and seek much of the session.  And like most of the little girls I know, she didn’t let her fancy dresses get in the way of a little fun!

Little Sunshine

I’m so happy this wonderful mom and her sweet daughter found me through Celebrating Adoption and I got to do a session for them this morning.   I know my CA clients go through a lot to bring home their children, and I am so happy when I get the chance to capture their new family in portraits.   This little cutie was only 3 months old, and as adorable as a little doll.  It’s not hard to see the joy she has brought to her mommy, and the special bond they share.

Cover Girl Ballerinas

March 1, 2010

Fairfax_0310

I’m excited to share the newest cover of Fairfax Woman Magazine March/April Edition, featuring my image.  You can grab a free copy at Metro stations and grocery stores around the Fairfax County area.   These ballerinas were just a joy to work with.  I also got to do some individual images of their poses and headshots, which will be part of their feature article.
