It’s not often I get a 2-year-old who turns on the charm like this big sister did in our Old Town Alexandria session this morning. She was posing, smiling, playing and helping us find fun spots for our portraits of her family. Little sister was a little more interested in exploring than showing us her pretty blue eyes, but we did manage to sneak in a few photos of her too.

What a beautiful morning for a photoshoot! And to make it even better I got to work with this adorable little toddler and her beautiful mom. We ran, jumped, sang and even looked for bugs.

This family wins the “good sport” award of the week. When we arrived at our location, we found out that a large tree was being chopped down and the main building was being painted, so it was hard to find spots without ladders or power tools in the background. Luckily we have been working together for a few years now, so we made it work, and the kids still had a fun time playing around.

It’s almost October and this family’s bright fall colors inspired the addition of the pumpkins to our photoshoot this morning. We were lucky to get one last warm morning before the cold air starts rolling in.

I was so glad to see the sun pop out after a couple days of rain so I could meet up with these sweet siblings for their photoshoot. They enjoyed showing me around their yard and “feeding” the neighbor’s stone turtles.

This little newborn was the most wakeful little guy I’ve had in the studio for quite some time. For over half of the session he was wide-eyed and we managed to get quite a few photos with him looking right at the camera. I had fun playing around with his big brother, who was such a good sport at the studio.

This little baby girl is the tiniest little 5-month-old, and was the perfect little model for her first photoshoot this morning. I enjoyed getting to chat with her mom and dad (who turned out to be neighbors of mine!) and incorporate all the handmade gifts they brought along into our portraits. The last image I shared shows her laying on her own quilt, and that was just one of the many hats and blankets that her been lovingly made for her.

I first met this little blue-eyed charmer last year and I had the opportunity to photograph him again this fall. This time he was full of words and ideas for what he wanted to do for our session. We had a blast traipsing around town and exploring, and I even managed to get him to sit still for some photos by wowing him with my car’s remote control.

I got to meet this new mother and father last month when we did a maternity session to capture their last days before the became a family of three. This week they were back again with their tiny baby girl. It was so sweet to do some before/after comparisons from the two sessions.

It was so nice to see these fellow W&M alums again. I had the chance to photograph their family shortly after their older son was born. Now their older son is an energetic toddler and he has a new (charmingly adorable) baby brother.
