Red, White and Blue

July 26, 2011

How totally adorably dressed are these cuties?!  I just love their little outfits, even down to the detail in the dress smocking and the tiny baby hat.  They were just the perfect little sibling portrait outfits.  And what sweet little ones.  Big sis just loved my tricycle, and it’s probably a good thing the antique wheels don’t really move, or she probably would have taken it for a ride : )

Leaving the Nest

These busy teens were so refreshing to work with–excited about their shoot and super easy-going.  Their family wanted some portraits before the son heads off to college in the fall, and after a little delay due to the excessive heat this past weekend, we were finally able to make that happen.

Seven plus Four

July 24, 2011

It was well into the 90s this morning when I met up with my favorite family of 7 and their extended family this morning but despite the heat, these little guys great little models for our session.  I’ve been photographing this family since they only had one child, and first saw them add the adorable triplets, and now their baby brother.  It’s so fun to see them grow up and start to show their individual personalities.

Birthday Boy

July 17, 2011

I was lucky enough to get to spend the weekend helping to celebrate my little nephew’s first birthday, and while I was up in PA we took a little time for a mini-session to honor this occasion.   His little smiles just make me melt.  What an adorable and sweet little dude he is!   For his birthday his Aunt Em gave him a suitcase with hope that he will come visit us down in Virginia ; )

If at first you don’t succeed…

July 1, 2011

So try, try again was the lesson of the day.  First of all, this was our third attempt at scheduling a session, and finally things came together and we were able to make it happen.  Then at the session after a bit of coaxing we managed to finally get big sis to join in the family portrait that mom had been hoping for.

Another Year, Another Sister

June 28, 2011

These older sisters came to the studio about a year and a half ago, and since their last visit they’ve added a new baby sister to their family.  The big sisters were such good helpers with our attempts to get some smiles from baby sister.   It was so sweet to see how much they enjoy helping to take care of their little sister.

All Together

June 26, 2011

I last met with these little guys back in March for little brother’s newborn session.  This time they were joined by their extended family and I had the chance to meet the whole crew.

Ballet, Tap, and Pettis

June 22, 2011

My older daughter came to me with her calendar earlier in the week to “schedule” a session with me for photos in her recital costumes.  I thought it was cute that she was my “client”, and organizing everything.  We invited her sister and friend to join us and got to capture her as a beautiful ballerina and snazzy tapper before they changed into some of my studio pettis and had a little fun.

Lessons from the Family Photo Collections

June 20, 2011

Working with so many families I hear a variety of reasons why people don’t like various portraits of themselves or their children.   I recently lost my grandfather, and as our family has been cleaning out his home we have uncovered a number of old family pictures.   Looking back through the portraits I can see how important family portraits are to your children and their future children, even if they’re not perfect.  In fact, the less perfect ones were the more interesting and fun ones to look at.  So here we go, my take on the “lessons from the family photo collections”.

And finally a couple of signed pictures I found that presumably were exchanged by my Grandmother and Grandfather while he was in the navy during WWII.

Before the Rain

June 13, 2011

We didn’t have too much time to get in our session last weekend, with heavily-clouded skies and thunder and lightening rolling quickly in.   But that didn’t stop these adorable siblings from having a little fun at our session.
